Meet Broderick Wong

An award-winning watercolorist who once quit the medium in frustration
and came back with a system that took all the guesswork out.

In 2009, Broderick left a career as a corporate trainer to pursue art full-time, dedicating hours into multimedia design, animation, and graphite portraiture before finding his true calling.

In 2015, he discovered watercolors. Like most beginners, he found the medium completely unpredictable and frustrating, leading him to quit watercolor. A year later, he gave it another go, with the intent to learn it properly. He spent the next 4 years of trial and error until he achieved a breakthrough.

After refining his approach and attending 5 master workshops, he led live workshops, placed first in the Masters category at the 2019 Grand Prix Plein Air in Steveston, was the featured artist for a major art supply chain, and represented Canada at Italy’s prestigious Fabriano in Acquarello exhibition, where his painting was juried into their permanent museum collection.

Since 2020 Broderick has been serving the global watercolor community through his online courses helping one student at a time, take the pressure out of watercolor, and paint with joy and total clarity.

We've Simplified What You Really Need
Into Bite-Sized Predictable Projects

A thoughtful learning sequence designed for steady progress, one small win at a time.

Module 1: Getting Started
2 Lessons | 6:13 Min
Start painting right away and see how much your painting changes as you go through the course.
Your First Project: Paint a simple reference, so any changes that happen later, you'll see why.
The Drawing Secret: How to get your drawing onto the paper in under 2 minutes.
The Right Materials: Decent supplies (not expensive, not cheap) you need to make the paint move correctly.
Module 2: How Much Water To Use
3 Lessons | 12:39 Min
You've seen how artists mix their water and color so easily, but they don't take the time to explain. In this module, you will finally know how it's done, so you can match your colors and keep them vibrant.
Learn the 3 Strengths Method to get the right color every time.
1 Thing You Need To Learn First.
Mixing 1 Color: When you can do this, you can mix any color combination later.
Why this is more important than color: Light, Medium and Dark.
Module 3: How To Guide The Water
9 Lessons | 36:23 Min Lessons condensed for overview
Watercolor painting is all about washes. In this module, you will learn that it is possible for you to create pristine, streak-free washes. It's the 1 step that other tutorials miss. You will be surprised it only takes 10 minutes to learn. Not years of "just keep practicing".
Introduction
How It Works: Learn 1 way to control all the water in your puddle, brush, and paper at the same time.
Watch It Done: See the whole painting happen from start to finish. Part 1
Getting Ready: How to set up so your paint doesn't dry too fast.
Exercise: Method + Technique: Let the water do the hard work for you using a light, medium and dark wash.
Review: Method and Technique
Module 4: Paint with Control
10 Lessons | 1:37 Hr Lessons condensed for overview
This is how others make painting look effortless. It's not about perfection. It's applying the right steps, in the right order so there's nothing to fix. Learn how to do this with the first project, one shape at a time.
The Two-Color Mix: Mix two colors to start simple and keep color mixing manageable.
The Clean Even Wash: How to get a pristine, glowing layer without any fixing.
Safe Layering: Adding new paint without ruining what you already did.
Spot Control: How to keep the paint inside the lines on small parts.
Day 4 Review: Why painting one shape at a time keeps your work clean.
Module 5: Paint with Certainty
10 Lessons | 48:51 Min Lessons condensed for overview
Now we can focus on re-creating your successes. There is nothing more life-affirming than doing something and having it turn out the way you wanted. We will paint new shapes with 1 more color, to help you manage your water and pigment.
The Three-Color Mix: How to mix three colors together to create different colors.
The Precision Practice: How to keep your edges sharp and clean.
Big Shape Control: How to paint large areas without leaving ugly streak marks.
The Layering Logic: Strategic layering to prevent bleeding between shapes.
Small Shape Control: How to paint small areas.
Day 5 Review: Identifying why your results stayed clean and professional.
Module 6: Paint with Consistency
8 Lessons | 1:14 Hr Lessons condensed for overview
This module fine-tunes your steps with new shapes. Control your watercolor through interesting shape scenarios. It is possible to make meaningful progress and have fun doing it, in place of drills, swatch painting, or long lectures.
Mixing 4 Colors: How to mix four colors together to create different colors.
The Main Focus: Setting up the most important part of your painting.
The Timing Method: Knowing exactly when to paint and when to stop.
No-Mud Secret: Ensure you keep colors vibrant, not muddy.
Irregular Shapes: How to paint irregular shapes that help you manage water on your paper.
Day 6 Review: Making sure you can handle many colors without making the paper messy.
Module 7: Paint with Progress, Not Perfection
6 Lessons | 36:57 Min Lessons condensed for overview
You know that feeling when the lesson is over and starting a new project feels like going back to sqaure 1? This module will help you crystallize the steps to ensure you lock in the learning needed to paint on your own.
The Final Project: Using the system on one painting you will do independently.
The Master Plan: A simple step-by-step look at how we finish the work.
Smart Patterning: Adding the final details over dry paint for a big "pop."
Your Path Forward: How to keep being a confident artist after the course.

It's Working For Them
It Will Work For You Too

From Guesswork To Understanding

Rosie tried books and tutorials, but nothing clicked until she learned this system to create beautiful results in only 3 months ⤵

"I like that the course answers how & why,
not just what."

Your 3 Strengths is simple and so easy to follow. I’ve always had a hard time figuring out the water to paint ratio. I really enjoyed the course and I’m kinda sad it’s done.”

Marianette Cheu

"You got me to the point where I thought,
I can do this."

"I can't believe I did that. You got me to the point where I thought, I can do this. I'm so happy when I look at my painting. As a student, it wasn't such a big painting that you got lost. You know you can be successful, and that makes you feel like you can do this and then the next one."

Ann Watman

"It gives me confidence to know when I’m doing something right."

"It gives me confidence to understand when I’m doing something right or when I’m doing something wrong. So many artists on Youtube just let you watch them paint without explaining what they are doing or why. One advantage of Broderick's classes is he sneaks in 10 repetitions into 1 "exercise"."
