most "fix" their watercolor paintings UNTIL IT LOOKs RIGHT.

Truth is, it never does. It will always lead to muddy colors, hard lines, and ruined paper.

Stop "fixing" your paintings and start painting with control

control the paint with nothing to fix after.

This Is Why Your Paintings End Up "Overworked"

You're Not Inconsistent

Let's strip all that complexity away
and start by controlling what we can.

What Can We Control?

Starting simple helps us see how water and pigment work together.

1. Prepare Your Watercolor

Mix the proper amount of water & color
inside a simple form where it's easy to track.

2. Contain Your Watercolor

Shapes "contain" their own water & color. If you can paint 1 shape, you can do the next.

Three watercolor teardrops in gradient shades of gray, blue, and dark navy, displayed on textured white paper, conveying a calm, minimalist tone.

3. Control Your Watercolor

All shapes combine into 1 complete painting.

The subject emerges.

What Control Can Do

Control makes it possible to complete advanced paintings later

Control Makes Painting Feel Effortless

Discover the 3 secrets that make painting feel effortless

Amount of Water

A watercolor palette with shades of blue and purple features a dome-shaped water droplet at the center, reflecting light. The scene is calm and artistic.

Amount of Water

  1. Stop guessing the water in your paint,

  2. If your paper is too wet and

  3. If your brush has enough water

Amount of Pigment

A paintbrush swirls black watercolor paint on a palette, surrounded by various pastel shades. The scene suggests creativity and calmness.

Amount of Pigment

Once you learn how to mix 1 color first,
you'll know how to mix any color later.

The Streak-Free Flow

A hand paints a grey triangle on paper using a brush. A watercolor palette with various shades is visible to the right, indicating a calm, creative process.

The Streak-Free Flow

Rushing, adding more water or more paint until it looks right is how to get streaks.

You Too, Can
Paint Effortlessly

There is an easier way to paint.

The Old Way

  • Random amount of water

  • Random amount of pigment

  • Fighting watercolor

  • Fixing with multiple passes

  • "Lucky" accidents

The Effortless Way

  • Proper amount of water

  • Proper amount of pigment

  • Guiding watercolor

  • One-pass painting

  • Predictable results

“I really enjoyed the course. Easy to follow and be successful in making the paintings! My watercolour has gotten a lot less patchy applying these techniques! ~ Rienske Mortier

Why I Teach This

I used to fight water, too.

Broderick Smiling with glasses and short hair, wearing a black zip-up. Background displays a corkboard with various small photos and postcards.

For a long time, I pushed my paint
back and forth thinking that more
strokes will make my painting look good.

It only turned my paintings
into muddy, overworked messes.
It was exhausting.

Then I did something different:

I stopped trying to paint "masterpieces" and focused on one shape at a time. The struggle disappeared almost instantly. I wasn't guessing anymore. I was in control.

This was when painting became enjoyable.

Two watercolor illustrations of traditional Asian pavilions, surrounded by greenery. The left features earthy tones; the right has stylized, abstract trees.

The Result:

Clean colors.
Even washes.
Smooth Edges.

Using this shape-first approach, I won 1st place out of 117 artists in a major competition. I even got invited to show my work in Italy!

A smiling man holds a trophy and a large check for 200,000 in a celebratory outdoor setting. Text reads "Broderick Wong, 1st Place Masters" with an artistic landscape painting.

The Result:

Clean colors.
Even washes.
Edges stayed sharp.

Using this shape approach, I won 1st place out of 117 artists in a major competition. I even got invited to show my work in Italy!

I learned from the world’s best and they too think in shapes. I’ve taken their master-level secrets and simplified them into a system you can use starting today.

This is why I teach this.
I want you to get to those 'Aha!' moments faster, so you too, can
experience the joy of painting

rather than wonder why things didn't work out...again.

Three watercolor paintings: a serene sunset over a calm sea, a tranquil garden with a pond beside traditional architecture, and an expressive portrait.

If you're still looking for that "missing piece", it's because you haven't been taught how to paint the way watercolor is meant to be used.

If that's what you've been looking for,
that's what you found here today.

“I'm loving the course. It's hands on so you are learning what you need without noticing the theory.~ Carol Natali

Is This The Right Fit?

This course is for you if:

  • You stopped painting and want a clear, easy way to start again.

  • You are tired of "tricks" and want to actually understand how watercolor works.

  • You are a self-taught painter who feels like your results are "lucky accidents."

  • You are done seeing mud, streaks, and weird blooms on your paper.

“I like that he presents the info in a clear and upbeat fashion. He gets to the point and doesn't drag on. I think his teaching style will be a good match for me, a former teacher. ~ Barbara Carten

It’s Working For Them,
It'll Work For You.

From guesswork to work they're proud to show off.

Confidence After Starting Simple

"It wasn't such a big painting that you got lost. As a student, you know you can be successful, and that makes you feel like you can do this and then the next one. I'm so happy when I look at mine (painting). I can't believe I did that. You got me to the point where I thought, I can do this."

Three stylized animals are illustrated: an orange-blue fish, a green-yellow caterpillar, and a colorful bird holding a fish in its talons.

Joe Austin

Understanding Replaces "Fixing"

"So many artists on Youtube just let you watch them paint without explaining what they are doing or why. It gives me confidence to know when I’m doing something right or to understand when I’m doing something wrong."

Two spider illustrations side-by-side; left, a blue abstract spider; right, a brown and yellow realistic spider. A green arrow points from blue to brown.

Marianette Cheu

Water To Pigment Ratio

"I like that the course answers HOW & WHY, not just WHAT. I’ve always had a hard time figuring out the water to paint ratio, but your 3 Strengths is simple and so easy to follow. I really enjoyed the course and I’m kinda sad it’s done.”

Illustration of a fish, bird, caterpillar, and spider in vibrant colors. The fish is orange and blue, the bird is multicolored, the caterpillar is green, and the spider is orange and brown. The tone is whimsical and playful.

Rosmarie Schulz

Smooth Wash

"These two shells provided something of a Eureka moment for me!! I finally NAILED (more or less) how to do a smooth wash!! About blooming time, eh?!!!! So grateful this has happened at last!"

Student Transformations

Real stories of control and effortless painting

I was honestly ready to give up on watercolor. I'd taken quite a few follow-along classes before and I still enjoy them, but I want to understand why something works or doesn't. When I saw that your course offered a solid technical foundation and step-by-step projects, I thought, "Okay, one last try." I'm so glad I did. I still need practice—but now I know where I need to improve and why.
— Shelley C. Taylor
"I've done several courses prior, read books, but your explanation & close videos have finally let me understand what I was missing/doing wrong (even using my palette properly and I'm only 2 modules in). THANK YOU Broderick… I am NOT affiliated."
— Kristi McMillan
Holy Guacamole! In ALL the watercolor courses I've taken so far (did I mention I've taken a LOT of them?) NO ONE has shown me this process. All the teachers assume we know this going in. I did that and the exercise was brain-dead easy! This technique is worth the cost of the course.
— John Orban
It's exactly what I was looking for. The instructor is very clear with his instructions so I can follow along without any confusion or pressure. I highly recommend this course.
— Christine Fung
I've been taking online classes for over 6 months and I've learned more in the first few lessons than I have with anything else I've paid to take online!
— Lisa M. Schneider
The videos are in bite sized clips which makes it easy to jump back into the course! Broderick is a very good teacher. He explains the concepts clearly in an accessible manner. This course helped me when I was feeling lost on how to improve my watercolour. Not only did I improve it, but I had a fun experience!
— Leyla Tabarrok

The "Aha" Moments

When the invisible conditions finally become visible.

I have done but few others, but have also read on the topic. The difference with yours was that I could see your hand, and much of the time see how you made use of the paint... It was the concept of building and directing the bead that was the first 'aha'
— Gerry Scott-Moore
"I look on line / YouTube and see if I could find some free courses. No real success here either as I didn't understand the process until I found several of your courses."
— Alice Kristian
I taught myself to watercolor with different videos and copying images but now I finally understand the theory behind it — and it wasn't boring! Thank you, can't wait until the next course.
— Sheri Broussard
Learning so much invaluable information I haven't seen in other videos regarding watercolors. I am literally blown away with the information. The pace of the videos, the format — everything about it is pleasant and enjoyable. Excellent teaching skills with easy to learn and follow instructions yet learning quality information others don't teach.
— Lucia Quick
I appreciate gaining a better understanding of the basics from the very start. I hate it when instructors make assumptions, forgetting that students who are new to an art or craft may not know very basic information — like paper types, what and why.
— Dayna Stump
"Every YouTube tutorial I watched seemed like magic. Now when something goes wrong, I know why and how to fix it."
— Lisa Anderson
"I went back to old paintings and could identify exactly what went wrong. I'm no longer guessing."
— Brian Mitchell

Water Control & The "Ratio"

Mastering the relationship between water, pigment, and paper.

I have already learnt so much about colour strength, mixing and how to move water! In all videos I watched before, nobody ever explained how much water to add — which is so fundamental to painting with water!
— Dipti Singh
I've been trying to learn how to paint with watercolors for the past year or so... now I GET IT! No more waiting for "happy accidents" to happen. No more frustration.
— Linda Krueger
I've always had a hard time figuring out the water to paint ratio, but your 4 strengths approach is simple! No more cauliflowers.
— Marianette Cheu
I had some experience using watercolor so I almost skipped this course. That would have been a big mistake — it taught me how to avoid obstacles that may seem obvious but really are not. Like how much water, the bead, and the different strengths of paint.
— Suzanne Olsiewski
Every technique is shown in detail, with plenty of opportunities to practice. You'll end up with a very good knowledge of how to make flat even washes and mixes. Plus, the course is fun and the instructor is friendly and an excellent painter. Highly recommend!
— Carmen Sanz
Excellent course! I learned a great deal. Both painting and mixing are demonstrated and explained in detail, with many close-ups and shots from multiple angles. Superbly done.
— Theresa Fessler
I was struggling with water control and getting blooms everywhere. Now I can control where water goes and create effects intentionally.
— Patricia Moore
I finally understand moisture control and my washes are smooth and even. No more streaks.
— Jennifer Park
I was making everything too watery because I was scared. Understanding the four strengths gave me a framework.
— Emma Wilson
I'm not a beginner, but I am filling in the gaps in my knowledge. I am learning more about glazing and remember to do a strength test ALWAYS.
— Beverly Johnson
The puddle building technique changed everything. Gave me so much more confidence and control.
— Michael Roberts
Learning about moisture management transformed my ability to paint larger areas smoothly.
— Daniel Foster

Intentional Painting

Shifting from "hoping it works" to "knowing it works."

I loved that you explain WHY and HOW things work the way they do with watercolor. I have never seen such clear and concise visual explanations. Other demonstrations made it seem too complicated. Thanks for making your lessons so good!
— C C
I tried a couple of ambitious projects that didn't turn out as well as I hoped. Instead of aimlessly learning through more trial and error, I picked this course. I have also shifted from being wary of putting paint on paper to wanting to lay out lots of color — which I really needed!
— Joy Thornton
The strengths test module! I'm noticing that I can influence how a painting develops with more intention, rather than hoping it turns out well.
— Kate Jones
Everything seemed to fall in place and it felt easy. My brushstrokes are more confident now. I feel I have more control over my water-paint ratio.
— Eva Holmqvist
My learning experience was exceptional. The instructor taught by breaking down elements of watercolor painting, then reiterating those elements while introducing new ones. I liked this instructor so much, I have purchased all three other courses he offers.
— Deanna J. McFarland
I wasn't sure if I could match the skills required for this course. I was wrong. Broderick is a wonderful teacher, easy to follow along and shared so much more than I expected. As he says — "Practice makes Progress."
— Andrea Flanagan
I learned an incredible amount in this course and it was incredibly fun. It's worth mentioning that my native language is German, but even with my limited English skills, I was able to follow the course quite well.
— Daniela Dick Gerber
I'm learning so much in such an orderly, logical way. The exercises provide incremental layers of knowledge and experience. Wonderful teaching methods and really impressive artistic skills to aspire to.
— Debra Martin
"It wasn't stressing at all when I messed it up, because I could try again and see what I did wrong. I feel more confident because I actually have control over the water on the paper."
— Meredith G.
Paced well and I like knowing how to paint correctly — but also, knowing what NOT to do is super important as well.
— Patricia Scheil
I thought I just "wasn't artistic enough". This course showed me it wasn't talent — it was knowledge.
— Robert Kim
The three-primary approach completely changed my painting. I can mix any color I need and I actually understand why it works.
— Sarah Thompson
Now I can predict and compensate for color shifts when drying. My color matching improved overnight.
— Nancy Lee
After understanding the relationship between water, pigment, and paper, I can now create smooth transitions every single time.
— Thomas Wright
"My palette is simpler and my results are better." I can create any color I need from just three primaries.
— Sophie Martin
I became clear to me how someone gets those crisp lines and achieves such a beautiful blend. I now know how — I just need to practice to really get it down, which I will definitely do!
— Heidi Childs

What you need to know
to help you decide

What does this course offer that others don't?

1.) No Guesswork: You’ll paint with an approach that's been tested and proven by many students before you.

2.) Bite-Sized Projects: We don't do huge, scary paintings. We focus on one small thing at a time so you never feel overwhelmed.

3.) Paper-Level View: You’ll see the water up-close. You can watch exactly how it moves so you can copy it at home.

4.) Just the Basics: No markers, pens, or fancy tools. We use only water and paint—the way watercolor was meant to be used.

What skill level is this course designed for?

Experience doesn't matter. Understanding does.

You’ll learn the right way to do things now, so you don’t have to fix bad habits later.

New Painters: Start the right way. Skip the mistakes and the "messy middle" that most people get stuck in.

Self-Taught Painters: If you feel like your art is a "lucky guess," we’ll give you a real plan that works every time.

Ready to Level Up: If you’re tired of fighting the water, let’s learn how to make it do what you want first.

Still not sure?

Take this [2-Minute check]. It shows you exactly where you are, how you learn best, and what to practice first.

Is this course a one time payment or subscription?

The Watercolor Painting System course is a one-time payment.

It’s not a subscription or membership model, which usually involves recurring fees, undue pressure to finish quickly and often encourages jumping between courses without fully diving in.

Why do the projects look so simple?

Because simple shapes let you see exactly what the water is doing.

Starting with painting a masterpiece, uses too much water, too much pigment making it difficult to control.

You'll always end up fixing without knowing what to change.

What if I don't know how to draw?

No drawing skills? No problem.

I've included "Skip the Drawing" templates. You just trace the shapes and get straight to the fun part: the painting!

When do I get started?

You’ll get instant access after purchase.

An email will arrive shortly with your login link and instructions to create your password.
If you don’t see it, be sure to check your Spam or Junk folder. Still can’t find it?

We are happy to help and will get you sorted quickly!

What happens after Day 7?

You'll be equipped with a skill set that will make painting more intentional.

What you build on is up to you:

Deepen it: Repeat the 7 days until control feels natural
